ParaPro Practice Test (ParaPathways 2026)
Updated October 28, 2026
If you are getting ready for the ParaPro, the test you will actually sit is now called ParaPathways. ETS launched ParaPathways on September 1, 2025, ran it alongside the ParaPro Assessment for one year, and retired the ParaPro on September 1, 2026. ParaPathways does the same job: it is the assessment many school districts use to show that a paraprofessional (teacher’s aide) can help teach reading, writing and math.
Most people still search for “ParaPro,” so you will see both names here. Everything on this page is written for the ParaPathways test. The questions are original practice, not real test items, and this site is not affiliated with ETS.
Try the five free questions below. Each one shows the answer and the reason as soon as you pick.
The test at a glance
ParaPathways has two parts, called subtests. You can take both in one appointment (test 5757) or book each one on its own (5758 and 5759). You need to pass both.
| Reading and Writing (5758) | Mathematics (5759) | |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 51 (45 scored) | 36 (30 scored) |
| Time | 85 minutes | 60 minutes |
| What it covers | Reading about 60%, Writing about 40% | Numbers and Operations about 50%; Geometry, Measurement and Data about 50% |
| Question types | Multiple choice, “select TWO,” and find-the-error items | Multiple choice and numeric entry (you type the number) |
| Calculator | None | On-screen four-function calculator |
| Score scale | 310 to 350 | 310 to 350 |
| ETS recommended passing score | 332 | 334 |
A few of the questions on each subtest are tryout items that don’t count, and you won’t know which ones they are, so give every question your best effort. Your state sets its own passing score; see ParaPathways passing scores by state.
What the questions feel like
The test is pitched at the skills a classroom aide uses every day. Reading passages are short, often about 100 to 150 words. Math is mostly upper-elementary and middle-school level: fractions, percents, simple equations, area and perimeter, and reading a chart. Many questions put you in the classroom: “A paraeducator is helping a student who…” and ask what the student did wrong or what you should do next. You still need the underlying skill to answer them.

-
A paraeducator is helping a student become a more fluent reader. Which three parts make up reading fluency?Answer: AReading fluency means reading words correctly (accuracy), at a natural pace (rate) and with the right phrasing and feeling (expression). Spelling and handwriting are writing skills, not fluency.
-
Which underlined part of the sentence contains an error? "Each morning the students in Room 12 [open] their books, [read] quietly for twenty minutes, and [writes] one sentence [about] what they read."Answer: CThe subject is "the students," which is plural, so all three verbs should be plural: open, read and write. "Writes" is the singular form and doesn't agree with the subject.
-
The school store marks a $12 binder down by 25%. What is the sale price?Answer: B25% of $12 is 0.25 × 12 = $3, so the binder costs $12 − $3 = $9. The $3 choice is the discount, not the price, and $11.75 comes from subtracting 25 cents instead of 25%.
-
What is the value of 50 − 2 × (3 + 1)²?Answer: BWork inside the parentheses first (3 + 1 = 4), then the exponent (4² = 16), then multiply (2 × 16 = 32), then subtract (50 − 32 = 18). Choosing 768 means subtracting before multiplying, and 34 means treating the exponent as "times 2."
-
After a small group reads a story together, a paraeducator wants students to use evidence from the text. Which question does that best?Answer: DAsking which words show a feeling sends students back to the text to find and cite evidence. The other questions ask for opinions or personal experiences, which can be useful for discussion but don't require evidence from the story.
Our full practice test
The full practice test on this site has 75 questions, matching the number that count on the real test: 27 Reading, 18 Writing, 15 Numbers and Operations, and 15 Geometry, Measurement and Data. We mark Reading and Writing as a pass at 28 of 45 and Math at 20 of 30, the raw scores that matched ETS’s recommended 332 and 334 on the form ETS studied when it set those cut scores. The math section comes with an on-screen four-function calculator, like the real one.
The free sample section is Math: Numbers and Operations, which you can start from the home page right now. After that, a 7-day free trial unlocks every section, then it is $29 a month.
