ParaPro Math Practice Test

Updated October 28, 2026

Math is the part of the ParaPro that worries people most, especially if it has been a while since you sat in a math class. The good news: the math on the test is everyday, school-level math, and the new version gives you a calculator.

The ParaPro was replaced by ParaPathways in 2026 (ETS retired the ParaPro on September 1, 2026). On ParaPathways, math is its own subtest, the Mathematics test (5759). You can take it on the same day as Reading and Writing or on a different day, and you only retake it if it’s the part you didn’t pass.

The five free questions below are original practice written to the ParaPathways outline. Each one shows the answer and a worked explanation as soon as you pick.

The math subtest at a glance

Item Details
Questions 36, of which 30 are scored
Time 60 minutes, about 1 minute 40 seconds a question
Question types Multiple choice, and numeric entry, where you type your answer in a box
Calculator An on-screen four-function calculator is provided; you can’t bring your own
Score 310 to 350; ETS recommends 334 to pass, and your state sets its own cut

What the math covers

The test splits evenly between two areas.

Area Share Topics
Numbers and Operations About 50% Integers, fractions, decimals, percents, place value and the number line, math words and symbols (quotient, numerator, <, >, ≠), exponents, order of operations, word problems, one-variable equations
Geometry, Measurement and Data About 50% Time and elapsed time, liquid volume and mass, US customary and metric units, converting within one system, 2-D shapes, perimeter, area, surface area and volume, the coordinate plane, tables and graphs, mean, median, mode and range

Some questions test the math directly. Others put you beside a student: you might see a student’s work and need to spot the mistake, or choose the best first step to show them. For worked examples of every topic, see ParaPro math topics.

Tips for the math subtest

  • Know what the calculator can’t do. A four-function calculator adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides. It won’t do order of operations for you or handle fractions, so work 3² as 3 × 3 and convert fractions yourself.
  • Numeric entry has no choices to check against. Reread the question and make sure you answered what it asked: the discount or the sale price, the perimeter or the area.
  • Use the choices on multiple choice. If you’re stuck on an equation, plug each choice back in and see which one works.
  • Watch units. If a length is in feet and another in inches, convert before you calculate.

Free ParaPro math questions

  1. A recipe uses 3/4 cup of flour for muffins and 2/3 cup of flour for pancakes. How much flour is that in all?
  2. A paraeducator checks a student's work on 4x − 7 = 21. The student wrote "4x = 14," then "x = 3.5." What should the paraeducator point out?
  3. A rectangular garden bed is 6 feet long and 4 feet wide. How many feet of fencing are needed to go all the way around it?
  4. In a class of 40 students, 15 ride the bus to school. What percent of the class does NOT ride the bus?
  5. Six students scored 9, 6, 10, 7, 9 and 7 on a spelling quiz. What is the mode of the scores?

The free sample on our home page is a full Math: Numbers and Operations section. Our full practice test has 30 math questions (15 from each area) and marks a pass at 20 of 30, the raw score that matched ETS’s recommended 334 in its scoring study, with an on-screen four-function calculator like the real test. A 7-day free trial unlocks everything, then it is $29 a month.
