ParaPathways Passing Scores by State

Updated October 28, 2026

ParaPathways, the ETS test that replaced the ParaPro in 2026, has two subtests, and each one gets its own score from 310 to 350. There is no single national passing score. ETS recommends one, and each state (or, in a few places, each school district) decides what to require.

Subtest Recommended passing score About how many scored questions right
Reading and Writing (5758) 332 28 of 45 (about 62%)
Mathematics (5759) 334 20 of 30 (about 67%)

ETS set these after a multistate study in March 2025 with educators from Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Minnesota. The “questions right” column comes from the scoring tables for the test form used in that study. Different forms are adjusted for difficulty, so treat it as a target, not a guarantee. If you’re scoring a comfortable margin above it in practice, you’re in good shape.

You must reach your state’s score on both subtests. Passing one doesn’t make up for the other.

Passing scores by state

These are the scores on ETS’s state requirements page as of October 28, 2026. States change their rules, so confirm with your state education department or the district that wants to hire you.

State Reading and Writing Math ParaPro (1755) score also accepted

Connecticut 332 334
Delaware 332 334 459

Florida (Hernando County only) 332 334 Other Florida districts list ParaPro scores
Hawaii 332 334
Idaho 332 334
Indiana 332 334
Louisiana 332 334
Maryland 332 334 455, through August 31, 2027
Minnesota 332 332 (see note) 455
Missouri 322 325
Nevada 329 334
New Mexico 332 334
North Dakota 332 334
Oklahoma 332 334
Rhode Island 332 334 No; ParaPathways only from March 1, 2026
South Carolina 332 334
South Dakota 332 334
Tennessee 332 334
Utah 332 334
Vermont 332 334
Virginia 332 334
Washington 324 325
West Virginia 332 334
Wisconsin 332 334 460 in two districts (Lakeland Union, Neenah Joint)
Wyoming 332 334 462

A blank in the last column means ETS lists no ParaPro alternative for that state; a ParaPro pass you already hold may still count with some employers, so ask.

Numbers to double-check

We found a few places where sources disagree. We show ETS’s number in the table, and here is what else we found:

  • Arkansas. ETS lists 322 and 325 and says ParaPro scores are accepted through August 31, 2027. An Arkansas Department of Education memo from September 2025 gives 324 and 325 and says ParaPathways replaces the ParaPro on August 31, 2026. The state may have revised its rules since; check with ADE or your district.
  • Minnesota. ETS lists Math at 332, while nearly every other state using the ETS default lists 334. It may be a typo. If you’re in Minnesota, aim for 334 to be safe and confirm with the state.
  • Missouri. Both ETS pages we checked say 322 and 325. We couldn’t find a Missouri education department page to confirm it.

States still listed with only ParaPro scores

In late October 2026, ETS’s page still showed only ParaPro scores for Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon and the U.S. Virgin Islands, plus district-level ParaPro scores in California, Florida, Montana, Pennsylvania and Texas. Since ETS retired the ParaPro on September 1, 2026, that page is probably behind. If your state is on this list, ask your state or district which ParaPathways score it accepts before you test. ParaPathways vs ParaPro explains what happens to older ParaPro scores.

The Bridge module: a second chance for near misses

If you just miss the passing score, you may not have to retake the subtest. ParaPathways Bridge is a $29.50 online learning module for candidates who score within one standard error of measurement (SEM) of their state’s cut: 3.5 points on Reading and Writing, 3.8 points on Math. You complete a module focused on your weakest content area, and your updated score report shows “Alt. Passed” for that subtest.

Bridge is offered only in these states: Connecticut, Idaho, Minnesota, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Virginia and Washington. Eligibility isn’t automatic for every subtest you miss; ETS notifies eligible candidates by email and shows the option in their online account. In Washington, for example, a regional education service district says the Bridge-qualifying score is 321 on both subtests.

How we mark our practice tests

Our full practice test marks a pass at 28 of 45 on Reading and Writing and 20 of 30 on Math, the raw scores that matched ETS’s recommended 332 and 334. If your state’s cut is lower, that’s a slightly stricter bar, which is a safe way to practice. Start with the free math sample on the home page, or try the ParaPro practice test. The ParaPathways test guide covers when your scores arrive.

Quick check

  1. What passing score does ETS recommend for the ParaPathways Mathematics subtest?
  2. A candidate in Virginia scores 330 on Reading and Writing, 2 points below the state's 332. What might let them pass without retaking?
  3. Which state lists the lowest ParaPathways Reading and Writing passing scores on ETS's page?
  4. A candidate scores 340 on Reading and Writing and 328 on Math in a state that uses 332 and 334. What is the result?
